The Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville primarily serves the Alorton, Cahokia, Centreville, East St. Louis, and Washington Park communities. The obstetrics department has recently added new equipment for neonatal resuscitation; all obstetrical nurses at Touchette are trained in neonatal resuscitation. According to the United Cerebral Palsy of Illinois website, 430 of the 3,558 babies born each week in Illinois are premature. Touchette also operates the Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital in East St. Louis.

St. Clair County offers several post-secondary educational opportunities: Lindenwood University in Belleville, Southwestern Illinois College Belleville’s campus, and McKendree University in Lebanon.

St. Clair County offers a variety of transportation options, such as the St. Louis Downtown Airport, Metro Bus and Metro Link light rail service by Metro St. Louis, and four major interstate highways: Interstates 55, 64, 70, and 255. Many residents of St. Claire County commute to work in the City of St. Louis via Interstates 64 and 70.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency in St. Clair County recently announced the establishment of a county-wide Special Needs Registry. The registry is designed to alert public safety personnel to any residents who may need special assistance in evacuation during an emergency. Examples of those needing special assistance include the elderly, physically or mentally challenged persons, the visually or hearing impaired, persons requiring oxygen, or those with other challenges. Residents of St. Clair County who have special needs should fill out the form online or print out and mail to the address on the form.

St. Clair County is one of the hottest development areas in the St. Louis region. The first new hotel to be built in East St. Louis in decades just opened near the Casino Queen. The Casino Queen Hotel is an upscale hotel that includes an RV park. The casino and hotel are St. Clair County’s sixth largest employer.
